Making a huge success in Nigeria might be an uphill task considering the country challenges, posing as stumbling blocks to greatness. Nevertheless, the persistence in determination and being mindedly optimistic in believing the chances of excelling in Nigeria has made Innocent Chukwuma Nwala, an indigene of Enugu state have his name in African history as the first indigenous vehicle manufacturing company founder in West Africa.

Without formal tertiary education, Innocent Chukwuma Nwala had gone extraordinary to put Nigeria on the automotive map and achieved significant success with his entrepreneurship spirit and becoming an employer of labour with multiple chains of businesses.

Narrating how he got the inspiration to set up the first ever car manufacturing vehicle plant in Nigeria and the first indigenous car company manufacturing in West Africa, Innocent revealed that he felt the need for Nigerians to have their own indigenous vehicle manufacturing plant with constant high cost on imported cars which most Africans can’t afford.

“I felt it was the time to do it and was motivated, haven’t realized that most Africans find it difficult to afford cars due to the high cost of imported vehicles, so I decided to focus on how to produce indigenous vehicles and name the company, Innoson Manufacturing Company.

According to him, “the unique proportion of Innoson Motors is that the vehicles are manufactured and tailored considering the Africa topography, climate and getting them fit into the African standard. They are more suitable to use in Africa than anywhere” he said.

Recounting on his journey to Innoson Motors, Innocent recalled that briefly after his high school education, he worked at his brother pharmacy store before he left to took up internship in a motorcycle spare part business

‘’I started with trading motorcycle spare part after I left my brother pharmacy store. I went ahead to raise funds from my spare part business and expanded by venturing into motorcycle assembling. I later build a plastic plant also to support my assembling business and all these funds are what I used to set up Innoson Motors Manufacturing Company. ‘’

Commenting on what keep him fulfil for his landmark achievements, Innocent stressed that seeing his vehicle brand everywhere he goes working under perfect condition, he derives happiness that wants him to keep doing more.

He, however called on Nigerians to tap from the available resources and opportunities in the country, saying Africa is a virgin place to work and exploit.

‘’It is possible to excel here in Nigeria. Africa is a virgin place to work because there are lot opportunities in the country. If you are sincere and ready to work, you will make it more. You don’t need to commit crime before you make it, what you will make in Africa is more than what you’ll make anywhere in the world’’, he said.
