Once I realized that I was often the youngest and only female in a room, it gave me the confidence to take up space and own what I do and not apologise for how I come across.


Among the recently honoured Forbes Africa 30 under 30 lists is Cleo Johnson, South African and Founder, Nuecleo.

Cleo is a seasoned marketing consultant and businesswoman with expertise in marketing strategy, social media hospitality and management.

She was recently awarded the Mail and Guardian Top 200 South Africa and has over industry experience with a proven record in brand reputation, marketing and sales revenue for numerous clients.

Cleo said when she’s not attending to clients, she’s must be speaking at events or giving back to my community.

“I’m a philanthropist at heart and I try my best to bring human dignity to the process of alleviating poverty. I combine my business acumen with my respect for humanity to uplift communities in providing weekly school feeding schemes through CRC Cares”, Cleo explained.

She said participating in Kilimanjaro for the Trek4Mandela, Caring for Girls Sanitary Drive, and assisting SOWLE Centre in raising R1.5 million. 10% of my gross income is donated towards making a change are initiatives she had involved in and what she’s still doing.

According to her, she said she’s very passionate about women in leadership because she has realised how difficult it is for women in senior positions to get things done, mostly when it involves men.

“I feel women fight for several things in society and I took my stance in the boardroom.

Once I realized that I was often the youngest and only female in a room, it gave me the confidence to take up space and own what I do and not apologise for how I come across. To inspire others to do the same I offer the #womenindigital internship program to make women more digitally fluent and employable”, she said.

She said that her company provides consultancy to her clients with a strong penchant in social media and marketing strategy for hospitality and tourism businesses who lack marketing infrastructure and a presence in the digital space, and some of the brands she has provided these services to are SIOPSA, Lilian Lofts, and Hotel 2 Fevrier

Cleo and her team assist and facilitates hotel opening by extending her company’s pre-opening team, without increasing the corporate office headcount and also commission its commercial task force to rectify and enhance sales, marketing, revenue and see the difference in only 3 months.

Her team provides commercial training (marketing, sales and revenue) to clients to ensure the management team are working towards the same objective with actionable tasks every month.
