Lanre who spoke at the Discovery for Men Conference at Fountain of Life Church, Lagos recently said that the 8Ps will help them irrespective of their status to discover themselves and find balance in life. He identified them as follows.

Pause:

Many people don’t pause to reflect on where they are coming from, where they are and where they want to be. They are always running and moving to get things done. To truly discover your identity, you must press that pause button, and when you pause, you must strip yourself of the labels, that roles and positions, possessions that you have acquired, the designers you have, what the world knows you as strip it and be completely empty. When you are completely naked, then you begin to ask yourself questions; what is my passion?

  1. Passion:

Ask yourself “What am I really passionate about?”, Your passion is a function of the things that you love to do, they are things that you do naturally. So, after you have paused, ask yourself what your passions are.

That answer comes from deep within you first, then you ask the people that have been with you while growing up and they would be able to point you in the direction of; we know you always did this or that, and what they tell you is supposed to be a confirmation of what you have discovered from within

Purpose

You need to discover your purpose, the reason why you are here, your mission, the pain that you were created to be the solution to, the problem that you are created to solve, the people that you are called to, you must identify them. But you cannot without pausing, without asking questions, without meditating. You have to be able to be in a quiet place, you have to be able to be in a meditative place, to be able to discover purpose, and to discover the purpose you must have a 360-degree perspective.

Perspective

Look up to God and ask God, look within yourself and ask yourself, look around you, and find the problems that you can solve. Look around you, look within you, look up to God.

Professional Competencies:

What are your professional proficiencies, what are your educational competencies, what are your skill competencies?

Personal volition:

What is that thing that if you are asked to do, you can do it for free? If you are offered 1 million dollars to stop doing, you would say no. That thing that when you start doing, time will pass and you would not eat. That thing that when they wake you up at 3 in the morning and ask you to do it, it will be a walk in the park.

Principles

What are those principles that guide the areas that you are passionate about, the areas of your professional competencies? Find them.

Position:

How do you begin to position yourself? In positioning yourself, you must get into the right relationships, because if you have found answers to all of these questions “8P’s” and marry someone whose purpose is directing them South and your purpose is directing you North, both of you cannot be in the same ship.

You need to create an alignment because the purpose for which you are in a relationship is to help your spouse fulfill their purpose on earth and the reason why your spouse is in a relationship with you, is to help you fulfill your purpose on earth.
