Here are five things to stop doing and five things to start doing when you’re feeling stressed or like your back is up against the wall.

Most people when having a hard time tend to fall back to drinking, smoking or other bad habits to shake off the tough time they are going through.

Meanwhile, if you feel like you’re struggling in whatever you do, don’t feed that stress with drinking, smoking or any other sort of mind-altering distraction.

To break through and create the results you want, you need to keep focused. Don’t let yourself fall into a downward spiral that only makes things worse.

At the end of the day, when you have a struggle in your business, you need to be able to stand tall, attack it and stop relying on bad habits.

Ordinarily and logically, anybody going through difficult times is expected to seek counsel and advice especially entrepreneurs who are to be on top of their games every time. Make sure the people you go to for advice are qualified and have experience that can benefit you and your business.

If you ask for advice from someone who isn’t qualified to give it, you’re not going to achieve what you want to achieve.

You can end up doing the wrong things, and your results can be worse than they would have been otherwise.

Also, avoid looking to your employees for advice because they’re looking to you for leadership and motivation. By relying on them, you’re throwing them into the center of the storm, rather than guiding them through it. Stop getting advice from the wrong people.

While it may be tempting as an entrepreneur to cut costs everywhere when times are challenging, you will likely only hurt your business in the end.

If you start cutting out things that are important and will help your business grow, you might just start to make things worse. Instead, focus on whether your issues are related to cash flow or if they’re business success issues.

For example, if you need to increase sales, look at increasing your marketing budget. Don’t let yourself get into a situation where you panic and start to do the wrong things. Stop thinking about cutting costs out of desperation.

Think about this, what are the principles that made you successful and helped you to get to where you are today?

As we grow and become more successful and overcome challenges, many people forget their successes. Stop forgetting about what made you successful in the first place.

There are people who have been enormously successful but don’t feel like they are successful at all because they’re always trying to achieve more.

Part of the work is already done, so reach out and talk to those people about what you’re doing now. It’s vital in business to cultivate both new and old relationships.

Talk to people you trust outside your business to get their advice. Talk to people who have been through what you’re going through and have pulled through it.
