Former National President of Junior Chamber International, Dr. Adekunbi Wuraola has called on leaders to imbibe the traits of past generations leaders and remain futuristic in policy planning and implementation centered on national development.

Delivering her keynote address on the theme; Leadership Now and Then: Leading through JCI Creed; the former national president of the organization, Wuraola said that poor leadership has failed people, generations, and also affects future leaders in Nigeria compare what was achieved through reputable leadership then.

“The problem in Nigeria is simply a failure of leadership there is nothing basically wrong with Nigeria. the problem of leadership is the unwillingness or the inability of its leaders to rise to the responsibility and challenge which are the hallmark of true leadership.

According to Wuraola, the leadership of today has changed the narrative of then saying that the past leaders had personal vision quotient and were determined to give helping hand to the needy, making themselves formidable and creating a change.

“Character of a leader can bring quantum change in people’s social behavior. We expect today’s leaders to have values, vision, to engage, inspire and motivate the people they are leading and build a relationship of trust, transparency, and integrity. She added.

Speaking on the way forward on effective leadership for the future, Wuraola highlighted those areas where leaders are to take charge and implement good policies such as globalization, environmental crisis management, digital transformation, human empowerment, managing demographic challenges, and also health.

She further urged people in positions of authority to make use of the JCI noble creed as guiding principles that centered on human competence, justice, and service to humanity.

In her words, “Our past can be imperfect, our present can be continuous but our future can be assured only if we have the right leader. leadership now and then can only happen if we set our mind using the JCI creed.
