Empowering women with digital and soft skills are important as they formed the 40% workforce, adding that if women are not being empowered in the digital space, everyone is missing on the digital opportunities to leverage the intellectual and creative power are being disenfranchise from they would bring to the table.


According to International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group and largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets, over 230 million jobs across the continent will require some level of digital skills by 2030.

This translates to a potential for 650 million training opportunities and an estimated $130 billion market.

To gain deeper insight into how to boost these skills while ensuring that the infrastructure exists for people to develop them, Microsoft’s Country Manager – Nigeria, Olatomiwa William has called for inclusion of women in the digital economy, for national transformation agenda, as the country gears towards attaining digital-inclined economy for national growth and development.

Speaking at the second edition of Global Digital Economy Summit organised by Junior Chamber International, Nigeria in Lagos, Williams expressed concerns on women lagging behind in the digital inclusion, noting that the digital skills remain core criteria in every industry to have a mark.

The Microsoft Manager further noted that empowering women with digital and soft skills are important as they formed the 40% workforce, adding that if women are not being empowered in the digital space, everyone is missing on the digital opportunities to leverage the intellectual and creative power are being disenfranchise from they would bring to the table.

According to Williams, technology is at the core of every activities human offer today irrespective of their industry and Microsoft has are committed to the mission of empowering every person and organization and planning to achieve more as a primary pivotal engagement to ensure that we can drive inclusive design of our solution inclusiveness in everything that we do and we realized that more has been done.

“Everyone must have access to digital skills and particularly for young people, it is important because they are born in the digital age and beyond using social devices to consume content, we need to drive economic growth for the country.

Meanwhile, commending the JCI Nigeria for the Global Digital Economy Summit, Williams called for formidable partnership with JCI in empowering women to take leadership roles within organizations and preparing them to be all-round role models that would enable young girls to know that it is possible to be super successful in the digital world.
