In her presentation, Lola extensively discussed various digital skills that are needed to thrive in the workplace having given the definition of digital skill as a whole bunch of skills that talks about one’s ability to use the internet to thrive in an actively or a consciously mobile society, a socially connected one.

Communication Skills

Lola advised that one must hone his or her skills, both verbal, written and in body language  to thrive in the media space, adding that such person must learn the right ways to behave or to respond to certain things

“If you don’t like where you are, you’ve got to go and acquire knowledge or the skills to change”

Creativity

Creativity means bringing out ideas. Creativity means to think out of the box what you have not imagined. Creativity is always something truly innovative.

“You’ve got to be creative to thrive in the digital workspace. What you thought was in vogue yesterday will change today and sometimes it’s even a trigger or something that is totally out of your control”

Credibility

Speaking on the issue of credibility, Lola emphasized that one cannot be credible if he or she isn’t trustworthy.

“If you’re a kind of person that is being sought for in the physical world, then clearly you will be challenged in the digital world because you won’t be trusted to truly do the work”

Lola further advised employees to always stand by their words and do the right thing at the right time.

Cognitive Flexibility

Cognitive flexibility is being able to use one’s brain to accept that things won’t always be the way you pictured it initially. It means that one’s brain must  be able to see different perspectives with the same issue.

Emotional intelligence

Emotional intelligence is a key skill that is needed to thrive in the digital workspace

“You need to be emotionally intelligent. Self awareness is an integral part of emotional intelligence. It is important that you be aware of how your actions or inactions impact others”

Inclusive Mindset

It’s important for one to have an inclusive mindset. Owing to the fact that there are different human beings that’re triggered by different needs and preferences. It’s important to do away with unnecessary strong views to thrive in the digital work space as one will be working with people in other countries and regions whose practices, beliefs might be different from yours.

Agile works

Agile work is often characterized by digital tools and processes that foster and enhance communication and collaboration between employees, which is close to the idea that is driving digital workplace development.
