Here are the most remarkable of those records: Most-Grand Slams in the Open Era: (23); Most aces served in a single tournament: 102 (Wimbledon 2012); Most consecutive weeks ranked No. 1 (record shared with Steffi Graf): 186 weeks.

Williams records also include the only player to have won three different Slams six times (7 AO, 7 Wimbledon, 6 USO); the only player to have won 3 Slams after saving match point (2003 AO, 2005 AO, 2009 Wimbledon); the one of only two players (along with Steffi Graf) to hold all four Slams simultaneously on two separate occasions.

She is also the oldest player to win a Slam (35 years, 4 months and 2 days when she won the 2017 AO). Serena also becomes the oldest player to be ranked World No. 1 (35 years, 7 months and 5 days as on 1 May 2017).

Personal life

Williams was born in Saginaw, Michigan. She and her family moved to Compton, California early on, and subsequently to Palm Beach, Florida, where Serena and her sister Venus joined Rick Macci’s tennis academy.

Both Serena and Venus Williams were coached by their father Richard until they turned pro and started winning Slams. Serena added Patrick Mouratoglou to her coaching team in later years.

She married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in 2017, and gave birth to her daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian on 1 September 2017. It later emerged that she was 8 weeks pregnant at the time of the 2017 Australian Open, a tournament that she won.
