Funke started blogging, initially with little success. She gradually found her community and began writing for other websites. She also started doing social media management and taking classes in SEO and media content creation.
Funke Olotu is a 24-year-old Nigerian content creator, social media manager, and a Pinterest Creators Program member. Her journey has been full of twists and turns, from studying microbiology to blogging, freelancing, and finally landing a job at Pennee, a Nigerian financial technology company.
Her dedication to her craft and passion for storytelling have led her to become a part of the Pinterest Creators Program, an initiative that provides content creators with resources, tools, and funding to create inspiring content on the platform.

Funke’s childhood was marked by frequent family relocations. She spent time in Akure, Benin-city, and Abuja, making it difficult for her to make lifelong friends. She struggled to adapt to different circumstances but never gave up.
In secondary school, she experienced bullying but fought to reclaim her sense of self-worth. “That was very chaotic for me to deal with as a child,” she says.
After completing secondary school, Funke enrolled in Elizade University, Ondo State, where she studied microbiology. She initially wanted to become a nurse, like her mother, but later discovered her passion for the creative arts.
In her first year, Funke discovered acting, which gave her so much joy that she would leave her classes and go for rehearsals. Despite realizing microbiology was not for her, she continued her studies because she did not want to disappoint her father, who was paying for her education.
In her third year, Funke started blogging, initially with little success. She gradually found her community and began writing for other websites. She also started doing social media management and taking classes in SEO and media content creation.
Her writing improved, and engagement on her blog posts soared, forming an amazing community. After completing her NYSC program, Funke secured a job as a content writer and social media manager, but it was not a smooth journey to the Pinterest Creators Program.
Funke’s big break came when she got a job as a content creator at Hints Magazine, which later turned into a content writer and social media manager position. Her time at Pennee has been one of the highlights of her career, and she describes it as one of the best companies she has worked for as a creative.
Her role as the Head of Marketing involves telling the stories of small business owners and helping them grow by providing them with a credit account.
Funke has now added a Master’s degree to her resume and is studying in the United Kingdom while working full-time in Nigeria. Although she struggled initially, her time management skills, passion for her work, and love for the people she works with have enabled her to succeed.
