Uber Begins Operations in Ibadan, Port Harcourt

The ride-hailing company, Uber Technologies Inc., popularly known as Uber has announced its operations expansion in Nigeria to more cities namely Ibadan and Port Harcourt to contribute to the economic recovery and growth in the country.

This brings to five the number of cities where Uber operates in Nigeria. The other cities in the country are Lagos, Abuja, and Benin City.

According to the company’s Country Manager for Uber Nigeria, Tope Akinwumi, Uber is excited to announce its operations expansion despite various challenges brought by the pandemic, saying the company looks forward to growing its footprint in Nigeria.

“We are excited about this announcement as we remain committed to keeping riders moving and drivers earning despite the various challenges brought about by the pandemic. Using the Uber app has become a reliable earnings opportunity in Nigeria. We believe that Uber has the potential to provide an alternative source of income that is pivotal to our efforts to contribute to economic recovery and growth in the country.’’

Akinwunmi also stressed that Uber plans to be everywhere and become the option of choice for commuters when looking for where to get a quick, safe and convenient ride.

‘’ We are excited to launch in Ibadan and Port Harcourt, we plan to be everywhere. We want to be the option of choice for commuters, looking to get to where they need to quickly, safely and conveniently. With that in mind, any progressive, forward-thinking city is where we want to be’’

People in Ibadan or Port Harcourt who choose to order an Uber will have the option of picking UberX rides. With this option, they will be given a pricing estimate upfront that will enable them to know ahead of time how much they would have to pay for a ride.
